Ready to Run towards the Summer Cup?
Well the dust has settled and the 2009 draft of Ready to Run horses have been sold and are on their way to their new lives. Some are heading back to Summerhill to take it easy for a while longer before they get down to the real business of racing.
The sale on 8 November exceeded expectations by achieving a growth of 9.5% overall and the top lots sold were 2 Galileo fillies sold for R2.1 Million and R1 Million respectively by Summerhill.
As the feed suppliers of the Summerhill draft, the Vuma team watched with pride as these young horses were put through their paces everyday, walked twice and taken out of their stables numerous times to be viewed by prospective buyers. In the sales ring they impressed, as the figures show, and we look forward to taking them into their racing careers.
These strong foundations are vital, so it is with great anticipation that we await Saturday’s Sansui Summer Cup day, especially with four graduates of last year’s sale competing in the Grade 2 Dingaans. Two Kahal colts, Havasha (trained by Mike de Kock) and Smanjemanje will be up against two Labeeb colts in the form of Khethani and Nyakatho.
The two sires will be up against each other again when the Mike de Kock trained Fisani (Kahal) meets Hypatia (Labeeb) in the Grade 3 Fillies Mile.
All in all Saturday will see the Vuma and Summerhill teams focused on racing at Turffontein.
