"Paul Hart and Harry will not compete at the Olympics."

It is with very heavy hearts and a sense of overwhelming absurdity that we heard that our Vuma Champion eventers Paul Hart and Heartbreak Hill will now not compete in the three phase eventing, starting on Saturday, at the 2012 London Olympics.

An attempt by Alex Peternell to reverse the decision to have the established team of Paul and Harry represent South Africa, in favour of himself and a newer horse has resulted in SASCOC withdrawing the single entry for a South African rider.

This is particularly disappointing when one looks at the ethics of the Olympics and the fact that, not only do we lose out on showcasing a South African Thoroughbred and SA based rider to the world... we now have no representation at all!

A very sorry state of affairs and the Vuma team's thoughts and best wishes are with Paul and Harry!

Reuse, Recycle, Re-invent!

At Vuma we have always believed in Green, from using organically grown raw materials wherever possible to keeping our bags environmentally friendly. Our 22.5Kg laminated BOPP bags are made from recyclable polypropylene so they can be reconstituted but the attractive bags are just too nice to simply send to the recycling plant!

We were delighted to see this innovative use of our polyprop bags at Roy Magner's yard at Randjiesfontein, they are, in our opinion, the nicest grooming kit bags around!

"If you are not in Gauteng this week, where are you?"

Joburg is heating up this week! The Thoroughbred Breeders Association Sales Complex in Germiston is abuzz with activity as buyers start coming through to view the draft for the 2012 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.

There is much planned during and after the National Sales and the TBA has included an added incentive to apply for a buyer's card in offering two lucky card holders a weekend away at the Royal Chundu Lodge on the Zambezi. Truth be told though, with the horses on offer, one hardly needs an incentive to be able to put a hand up!

Vuma Horsefeeds will be at the TBA Sales Complex in force to support all our breeders; led of course by founders of the feed and Champion Breeders of South Africa, Summerhill Stud, who have a draft of 31 yearlings who have had only the best foundation in Vuma.

Champion's Day, Saturday at Turffontein, will be a cracker of a race day as the Highveld Autumn season comes to an end with a bang! Nine of the ten races on the card are graded races, so we should be in for a great day's racing covering all ages and all distances.

As always, Vuma will be there when it matters most - we love to feed your champions!

The Biggest Friesian Stallion in South Africa

At the recent Winter Friesian Show held at the Vereeniging show grounds, the Vuma team was there as part of the Afresh Brands family, who were headline sponsors of the show!

The highlight of the show was the impressive dressage demonstration by the Friesian stallion, Bertus, owned by Niekie Pienaar of Adelprag Stud near Potchefstroom and ridden by Cherie Burger.

Bertus, the biggest Friesian stallion in South Africa is imposing in size and remarkable in his movement and temperament! Their demonstration was a real show-case of the magnificence of the horse in all its forms and a tribute to classical riding.

Vuma is proud to feed the horses of Adelprag and salute Niekie, Cherie and their team - we love to feed your champions!

"Fueled by VUMA"

Vuma champion JJ the Jet Plane will be returning to South Africa as soon as possible. In a letter received from Team JJ, Natalie Houdalakis writes :

"Dear All,

It is with a very heavy heart that we have to make the following announcement.

JJ has unfortunately suffered an injury at track work in Dubai, whilst preparing for the Krisflyer International Sprint in May. He has suffered a core lesion of his medial lower suspensory of his near fore leg. Although not life threatening or permanently career ending, it is however serious enough to put an end to his International Campaign.

The entire JJ team, Lucky and owners, Hennie Du Preez, Coenie Strydom and Thea Boyens are all devastated with the news and are still in a state of disbelief. However, as you all know, racing can be a very cruel game and one learns to take the lows along with the highs. And our Champ has given us more highs than most experience in a lifetime!

We have decided that in the best interest of JJ's welfare, he is to return home to SA as soon as possible, where we can hopefully nurture him back to full health once again.

We would like to take this opportunity in thanking each and every one of you for your continued support of this marvellous race horse. He not only belongs to us but to all South African Racing fans and along the way, he has managed to capture the hearts of many fans abroad too.

Our condolences to all the connections on such a massive disappointment. JJ has certainly brought us all a lot of excitement and great memories and has helped to fly the SA flag high on the International Racing stage.

The Vuma team looks forward to welcoming our Champion home!
