WEG 2010 : It's Nearly here!

There are a mere 57 days until the start of the Altech FEI World Equestrian Games 2010, in Lexington, Kentucky.

For Vuma Champions Paul Hart and Heartbreak Hill, what seemed like a far off dream has suddenly become an immediate reality, writes Suzanne Boswell of SCB PR & Communications.

Harry is doing well and is fit and ready to compete in their last preparation event which is Martinvast (Normandy) from the 19th to the 22nd of August.

Paul is busy with all his preparations as he leaves for France next week Thursday to train and prepare and will only be returning to South Africa post WEG. He is feeling very optimistic about the event. All preparations are going well.

"It all seems to have come so fast - it seems like the horses were in quarantine the other day and now there are only 57 days left.  In some ways I don't want this to end as it has been such an amazing experience and I have been overwhelmed by everybody's kindness and generosity. I am sure that Harry and I will do you all proud"

I would also like to say a big thank you to all my sponsors big and small as it is through your commitment that this dream has become a reality." concludes Paul.

Suzanne will keep us abreast of things as they happen and from the Vuma team we wish all the South African riders and supporters a superb Kentucky experience – Hambani Kahle!

WORLD EQUESTRIAN GAMES 2010

South Africa can be extremely proud of their riders. Team selection has taken place and the preparations have started to get the various teams and their horses overseas.

Vuma eventing Champions, Paul Hart and Heartbreak Hill have been selected for the South African eventing team, and together with fellow eventers Graham Winn, Douglas Welsh and Heidi Wood will make their way to France to prepare for the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky which start on 25 September 2010.

Together with the rest of the team’s horses, Heartbreak Hill will go into quarantine in Cape Town in the first week of January and will leave in March for France. The team will be based in Fontainebleau with Jean-Philippe Camboulives, their coach and advisor. There they will be under his guidance and they will compete in various events in Europe to prepare them for the rigours of the WEG.

They will then head to Kentucky in September for the start of the World Equestrian Games to be held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. The Eventing dressage is scheduled to begin on 30 September, followed by the Cross Country on Saturday 2 October and the final show jumping phase on 3 October.

The road ahead is exciting but it will be challenging, from ensuring that horses and riders are well prepared to ensuring that they have sufficient funding to fulfil this incredible opportunity.

The Vuma team salutes all the selected participants and wishes Team SA a very successful 2010 – the start of greater things to come.

WORLD EQUESTRIAN GAMES 2010

Tickets for the WEG 2010 went on sale on Friday and there are now only 359 days left until the start of the World Equestrian Games at the Kentucky Horse Park.

This promises to be a very exciting event with all disciplines being run from the same venue. From a spectator point of view, this means that everything can be found at the Horse Park, from the eight competitive disciplines to exhibitor’s stands.

The World Equestrian Games will also overlap with the end of the Keeneland September Yearling Sales and it is a magical time to be in Kentucky.

The Blue Grass State is truly worth a visit to see some of the most beautiful horse country in the world and the added incentive of seeing the best riders competing over the sixteen days makes it a must-see!

Vuma hopes to be there supporting our South African riders and garnering new friendships and ideas!
